Blackpool are eyeing up a spot in the playoff positions this weekend when they head to the DW Stadium after a midweek win continued a positive run for the Tangerines.
With just a loss to Leyton Orient in the league within the past month, Blackpool are one of League One's in-form sides. The club have managed to draw with the league leaders Portsmouth last weekend and also claimed all three points in an away trip at Northampton Town on Tuesday. Blackpool also head into this game after wins over Bolton Wanderers and Shrewsbury in the past month.
They did, however, lose to Peterborough United in the Football League Trophy semi-finals before this run, but oddly enough, they also managed to defeat the Posh in the league away from home just three days before the semi-finals loss.
Wigan are down in 14th after winning just two of their past five games. The club are still above the bottom three by 14 points, however, and if it wasn't for their points deduction, the club could be campaigning for a spot in the playoffs. In fact, even though Blackpool are six places above them in the table with 13 more points, they have actually only won one more game than Wigan's tally of 16.
The Tics lost to Wycombe Wanderers during the week, although they did manage to get a 1-0 win at home to Leyton Orient before this. They were stunned by Fleetwood Town 4-2 two weeks ago, but by beating Bolton Wanderers 1-0 at home in an all-Greater Manchester affair, Shaun Maloney's men proved what they are capable of.
