Both of these teams harbour ambitions of European football next season, and while that has been a pleasant surprise for Sunday's hosts, Sunderland, Chelsea demand European football every season and the thought of not qualifying is simply embarrassing given the money the club has spent on new players.
The hosts head into the final day of the season unbeaten in their last three matches, two of which have ended in draws. Sunderland will be looking to end the campaign on a positive note in front of their adoring fans, and the prospect of European football will be more than enough motivation for the players.
Chelsea's form has improved of late, with the Londoners picking up a win against Tottenham last time out and, before that, holding Liverpool to a draw at Anfield.
Four of Sunderland's last seven league games have ended with both teams scoring, and the Black Cats have only lost one of those encounters. Three of Chelsea's last four fixtures have produced goals at both ends of the pitch, and the Blues have only managed to keep one clean sheet in their last eight attempts in league and cup.
With both teams having so much to play for, we can see these two sides cancelling one another out on the final day of the campaign, and a draw might not be good enough for either team to make their European dreams a reality.
