Benfica and RB Salzburg keep the action going this Wednesday night in the Champions League with the Austrian outfit making the trip to the Portuguese capital in the midst of another solid start to their domestic campaign.
As is usually the case, Salzburg are flying in the Austrian Bundesliga and come into this game having only recently dropped points for the first time in an away trip to Sturm Graz. Samson Baidoo scored the opening goal for Salzburg that day before Sekou Koita scored to equalise from the penalty spot.
Prior to this, the champions of Austria were on a tear and have now won six of the seven games and let in just four goals - no side has a better defensive record than them. Salzburg are also the highest-scoring side in Austria right now, having bagged 18 goals from seven matches.
The club's other wins have seen them defeat Rapid Wien 2-0 with a brace from Roko Simic where they also had eight shots on target from a total of 19 efforts. Prior to this, they also managed to defeat Wolfsberg 2-1 with a finish each from Baidoo and Koita once again. Salzburg have also beaten Hartberg and Austria Wien this season, as they managed to put five past Hartberg with a goal from Koita, Oscar Gloukh and a brace within 14 minutes of the second half for Amar Dedic.
As for Benfica, their attempts to defend their title so far see them with one loss from five games after scoring 13 times and letting in six goals too. The Portuguese champions sit fourth as a result, but their defeat to the current league leaders Boavista was all the way back on matchday one. Peter Musa was sent off that day for the club, as Angel Di Maria took just 22 minutes to get his first goal on his second spell with the club. Rafa Silva also bagged that day.
Benfica have also managed to get a win over Porto this season in the Supertaca Candido de Oliveira where Di Maria bagged again alongside a finish from Musa.
Roger Schmidt's side head into this one having also beaten Gil Vicente, Vitoria SC and Vizela. In that recent win over Vizela, Di Maria bagged yet again, as did Musa.
