This will be the second ever appearance at the world cup for the Senegalese national football team. They have been absent from the world cup finals for 16 years since last making their appearance at the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan, they did however have a lot of success in this tournament.
They managed to finish second in the group behind Denmark after defeating the previous year’s defending champions France. The Lions of Teranga then progressed to the round of 16 and managed to pick up a 2-1 win over Sweden to send them through to the Quarter-finals. Here they played Turkey in game that was a tough stalemate with Turkey managing to pick up a goal in the 94’ and they would eventually finish third in the competition so who knows how far Senegal could have gone if they had got through.
This year Senegal has been placed in group H with the likes of Poland, Colombia and Japan. This certainly looks like a group they can compete with as all the teams are ranked relatively close on the world rankings meaning it could be a very competitive group.
