Sheff Wed vs Swansea: Swansea win to nil

High-flying Swansea City will look to build on their morale-boosting win over promotion rivals Norwich City last week, when they travel to Yorkshire to face Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday.

Wednesday’s win on Tuesday over Wycombe Wanderers saw them move out of the relegation zone for the first time this season. After having their initial 12-point deduction reduced to just six, the win over the league’s bottom club moved them level on points with Derby County and Birmingham City, but their 4-1 defeat to Millwall last week shows the volatility of their results of late.

The Owls are also very low scorers, netting just 21 in 28 league games so far, and when you put a rather feeble attack up against the best defence in the league, struggles may arise. Swansea have conceded just 15 goals this season, keeping an incredible 15 clean sheets in their 27 matches in the Championship. The Welsh side moved to within two points of Norwich after their win over the Canaries last week, while still having a game in hand.

Swansea have won four on the spin away from home and we are backing them to make it five at Hillsborough, while also recording another successful shutout. Swansea win to nil is 9/4 with Sky Bet.

Rotherham vs QPR: QPR to win 1-0, 2-0, 2-1

Two sides flirting with trouble at the wrong end of the table meet at the New York Stadium this weekend when Rotherham host Queen’s Park Rangers.

Despite making improvements since the turn of the year, Rotherham have been extremely inconsistent and lost in the week against Cardiff City here. They sit just one point above the relegation zone and with Sheffield Wednesday clawing themselves away from trouble, that will only suck Rotherham further into trouble. Having the third-worst defensive record in the league has overshadowed their prowess in front of goal, as the Millers have scored more goals than almost half the sides in the top half.

While Rotherham enjoy goals at both ends of the pitch, QPR are the opposite as 13 of their last 14 games have seen under 2.5 goals, with the only exception being their 2-1 win over Watford two weeks ago.

All of those wins came by a scoreline of either 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1, so our tip is for QPR to win inside this correct score group, priced at 3/1.

Birmingham vs Luton: under 1.5 goals

A pair of goal-shy outfits will battle it out at St. Andrew’s this weekend, with Birmingham City hosting Luton Town, as Aitor Karanka’s men look to move out of the relegation zone in the Championship.

Sheffield Wednesday’s win in the week meant Birmingham dropped to 23rd and no team who has played the maximum of 28 games have scored fewer than their 21, going some way to explaining their demise. Their upcoming opponents have not fared much better in attack though, as Luton have scored just 22 themselves, but they are in a much safer position in mid-table.

The two teams also share some identical scoring records that no side would be too proud of. Both have blanked on 12 occasions in the league this season, and they have also both only scored more than one goal in five matches.

All signs point towards a drab affair here, and we think under 1.5 goals scored in the match at 7/4 is the bet to go for.

Watford vs Bristol City: Watford win to nil

Vicarage Road is the location for Saturday’s Championship fixture between Watford and Bristol City, with the Hornets aiming to improve on the recent patchy form under new manager Xisco Munoz.

The inexperienced Spaniard still leads the side who have the best home record in the division though, picking up 32 points in 14 matches at Vicarage Road. Their strong defensive form is also of note, as Watford have conceded only 20 goals this season, and four of their last six home games have seen Xisco’s side win to nil.

Bristol City, on the other hand, have been on a rotten run of form away from Ashton Gate, losing six in a row on the road, with their last away win coming on the 1st of December. They have scored just three goals in those six away defeats, so with a battle approaching against a stern defensive outfit, they may struggle to find the net again.
Our tip is for Watford to win to nil in this one, available at odds of 11/8 with Sky Bet.

Brentford vs Barnsley: Brentford win + BTTS

Brentford will have to wait an additional 24 hours to play their weekend fixture compared to their rivals because of their visitors Barnsley’s FA Cup tie with Chelsea on Thursday, but if results go their way on Saturday, they may have the chance to go top.

A terrific run of form for Brentford sees them top the current form table in the Championship as well as moving them to within a point of leaders Norwich City with a game in hand. They are virtually unassailable in the goalscoring charts too, with their 52 goals a clear distance ahead of the rest, and a lot of that can be contributed to the sensational debut season of Ivan Toney, who starts the weekend as the league’s top scorer on 22 league goals, five more than Adam Armstrong in second.

While Brentford are top of the form table over the last five games, Barnsley are bottom, picking up just two points over that period and they are yet to win a league game in 2021. Their high-profile cup involvement on Thursday may detract attention away from this fixture too, giving Brentford the upper hand in freshness and tactical preparation.
Our tip is a Brentford win here, but considering the Bees have failed to keep a clean sheet in five games, we believe both teams to score is good value alongside this.

Brentford win and BTTS is available at 10/3.
