ITV Racing Tips – Friday 9th October 2026 Best Bets for Newmarket, York & Chepstow

The ITV cameras will be at Newmarket on Friday, with the Group One bet365 Fillies' Mile headlining the card. A total of nine races will be covered on Friday, including two from the Jumps Opener at Chepstow.

We have gone through all televised races on ITV this Friday, picking out ITV horse racing tips, and an accumulator for ITV racing.

13:15 - Newmarket - Flann Sunna

ITV’s coverage on Friday kicks off from Newmarket, as a field of 13 juveniles line up in the Group Three Cornwallis Stakes. Nine of the last 12 winners of the race have held an official rating of 97, while all but one of the victors over the same period have lined up within the last 48 days.

Flann Sunna should prove hard to beat for the in-form Simon & Ed Crisford yard now dropping down in grade. The two-year-old by Blue Point was last seen finishing a close third behind Final Objective in the Group Two Flying Childers when a hampered start was ultimately costly.

Had previously shown high-quality form over six furlongs, beating Mysterious Times at Ascot and finishing within four lengths of Man’s Best Friend in the Group Two Richmond. That form has since been boosted with Night In Vegas winning twice.

13:50 - Newmarket - Chasing Daylight

Next up is the Group Three Oh So Sharp Stakes for the two-year-old fillies, run over a distance of seven furlongs. Last-time-out winners have a strong historical advantage, winning nine of the last 12.

Therefore, the incredibly unexposed Chasing Daylight could be of interest for the David Simcock yard. By Space Blues, who has produced group-winning juveniles such as Power Blue and Ballinea Star.

The selection made an impressive winning debut at Yarmouth last month, appearing suited by the good-to-soft ground to ease clear of Sea La Roma. That looked like a decent maiden, and she is worth a chance up in grade.

14:05 - York - Dontlookanyfurther

The first of two races from York on Saturday is the British EBF £100,000 Final. Cases can be made for many of the runners involved, but the attention should be on those drawn in the middle.

Dontlookanyfurther looks like an interesting angle for the John & Sean Quinn yard, as his recent effort on unsuitably soft ground was out of character.

Prior to that, he had won on back-to-back starts over six furlongs, showing plenty of ability when pulling four lengths clear of Reddy at Thirsk. A step up in distance should suit based on his finishing efforts in his recent wins.

14:25 - Newmarket - Flora Of Bermuda

The Group Two Challenge Stakes is next up from Newmarket, with a small field of six runners competing over seven furlongs. Flora Of Bermuda looks like the standout selection on these terms.

The five-year-old is the runner from the in-form Andrew Balding yard, and she lost little in defeat when narrowly touched off by More Thunder in the Group Two Park Stakes last time. She has shown plenty of ability in group company throughout this season, including a win over seven furlongs in the Group Three Oak Tree Stakes.

Handles Newmarket after winning the Listed Ellen Shaloner Stakes in May, and it only enhances her claims that nine of the last 12 winners have been found in the top three of the betting.

14:40 - York - Mythical Bay

The second of the races covered from York on Friday is the William Hill Finale Handicap, run over a distance of a mile and six. Mythical Bay is an interesting chance for the Andrew Balding stable in first-time headgear.

The three-year-old was unsuited by heavy ground at Haydock last time, but had shaped with promise in the Melrose Handicap prior to that when ninth.

This looks like an easier assignment, and he has already shown his staying ability this season after winning over a mile and six at Newmarket and a mile and four at Newbury. Callum Hutchinson is back aboard, just as he was for the win at HQ.

14:57 - Newmarket - Musical Times

Clues for next year’s Classics will be on offer in the Group One bet365 Fillies’ Mile, with Rogue Passion and Forbidden Fire both bringing progressive profiles into the race at Newmarket.

However, Musical Times should prove extremely hard to beat for the Charlie Appleby and William Buick combination. The two-year-old by Lope De Vega has won on three straight appearances, and she took her form to the next level when stepped up to a mile for the first time at Doncaster last time to land the Group Two May Hill Stakes by a yawning seven-length margin.

Appears to be some substance to that form, with the sixth, Tall Trees, running well when beaten just four lengths in last weekend’s Group One Marcel Boussac. Fifth-place finisher, Martinet, has also reappeared with a win.

15:12 - Chepstow - Pioneer Pete

The jumps season opener from Chepstow is also covered on ITV this week, with the first of two races from the track coming in the form of the Welsh Champion Hurdle.

Captain Hugo is respected at the head of the betting, but the fact that many of the leading contenders will be returning from long layoffs shouldn’t be overlooked.

Pioneer Pete could be an interesting each-way alternative for the Jonjo & A J O’Neill team, having won on back-to-back starts over two miles at Worcester and Stratford over the summer. His latest win at the latter saw him finish a length clear of King’s Scholar.

Any rain would be a negative with all of his best form coming on good ground, but he carries a light weight of 10-7 this Friday and is closely matched with the best in the field with an RPR of 148.

15:30 - Newmarket - Study Of Words

The big handicap from Newmarket on Friday comes in the form of the Old Rowley Cup, run by three-year-olds over a distance of a mile and four.

The trends indicate looking for horses carrying 9-3 or less (11/12), those that didn’t win last time out (2/12), and runners that hold ORs of between 87-96 (9/12). Study of Words ticks all of the desired trends for a Charlie Appelby yard that should always be respected at HQ.

The three-year-old will be making his first start after being gelded on Friday, having previously run second behind Al Azd at Ascot. Has winning experience at Newmarket, having run out an easy 15-length winner at the track in October.

Holds an interesting form line with the talented Bay Of Brilliance, finishing under a length behind the subsequent Lingfield Derby Trail runner-up at Goodwood in September 2025. Bred to excel over this distance as a son of Frankel.

15:43 - Chepstow - Lord Byron

ITV’s coverage on Friday concludes with the Grade Two Persian War Novices’ Hurdle. Lord Byron should be primed for a big effort after having a recent flat run under his belt to gain fitness.

The four-year-old is yet to win over hurdles, but was beaten only a head by King Rasko Grey in the Grade One Champion Novice Hurdle at the Punchestown Festival at the end of last season.

Ran big races in defeat at all Spring meetings last season, including when fifth and beaten only three lengths in the Grade One Triumph. Should excel over this distance based on the form in the book, and Harry Cobden is booked to take the ride.
