Kane to be PL Top Scorer in 2021/22 at 4/1

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is priced at 4/1 to be the Premier League’s top scorer in the 2021/22 season despite having won the Golden Boot last time out with 23 goals in 35 appearances, finding the back of the net every 134 minutes.

At present, we are unsure of which team the 27-year-old will be playing for next season, as Spurs are desperate to keep their star player, whilst Manchester City are trying to prize the England captain away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as a replacement for Sergio Aguero who joined Barcelona upon the Citizens allowing his contract to expire at the Etihad Stadium.

Regardless of where Kane will be playing next season, the Tottenham man’s quality is undoubtable as he has scored 166 goals in 245 Premier League appearances which leaves him 94 goals shy of Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League record of 260 which at this stage looks as though it could be under severe threat. So far in Kane’s career, he has won the Golden Boot on three separate occasions in 2015/16, 2016/17 and last time out.

Next up is Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah who despite his side’s troubles for form at times last season managed to hit the back of the net 22 times in 37 league appearances, averaging a goal every 140 minutes.

The former AS Roma man has won the Golden Boot twice in his time at Anfield, scoring a staggering 32 goals in the 2017/18 which is the most in a single Premier League campaign since the league switched to a 20-team format, as well as winning the individual accolade the following season with 22 goals.

Salah’s record in England’s top flight is staggering for that of an inside forward having bagged 97 times in 158 league appearances since joining Liverpool in the summer of 2017, hence why the Egyptian’s odds currently stand at 5/1 to win the Golden Boot for a third time.

City winger Raheem Sterling is the Citizens first entrant onto this list despite having a below-par season last time out, scoring just 10 times in 31 league matches.

However, there is substance for Sterling’s Premier League Golden Boot odds being at 8/1, as having had a good European Championship for England where he scored three goals in the Three Lions route to the final, as well having shown his true capabilities between 2017 and 2020 where he managed to net 55 goals in league 101 appearances.

Despite never actually winning the Golden Boot itself, he finished just three goals shy of the award in 2019/20 when City failed to defend their Premier League crown from Liverpool, finishing on 81 points despite scoring a staggering 102 goals.

Diogo Jota is another player that will be coming into this campaign with a point to prove, having spent large spells on the sidelines last season to due injuries, making 19 appearances, scoring nine times in his debut season at Anfield.

This was actually the former Wolverhampton Wanderers strikers joint best goal tally in the Premier League since arriving in England and if the opportunity arises to potentially take the centre forward role at Anfield ahead of the out of form Roberto Firmino, then the Portuguese man could potentially thrive in a slightly new look Liverpool attack, hence why he has the odds of 11/1 to win the Golden Boot.

Sadio Mane is the final Liverpool player to feature in this list of odds for those that could be in contention for the Golden Boot, coming in at 18/1. The Senegalese striker had a tough time in front of goal for his recent standards, scoring 11 in 35 matches, compared to the 40 goals he had managed in the two seasons prior to this.

The 29-year-old who started life in the Premier League at Southampton actually won the Golden Boot in 2018/19, sharing with his teammate Salah, as well as Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, finding the back of the net 22 times across 36 games for the Reds.

Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford was perhaps one of the surprise packages of last season in the Premier League, having only previously scored one goal in England’s top flight for Crystal Palace, Norwich City, Burnley and Middlesbrough in 27 appearances, but, Argentinian manager Marcelo Bielsa looks as though he knows how to get the best out of the former Chelsea man.

The 27-year-old was an integral part of the Leeds side that got promoted back to the Premier League for the first time since the 2003/04 season scoring 16 and making four assists in 45 appearances in the Championship in 2019/20, since then the Grantham born forward has gone from strength to strength at Elland Road, hitting the back of the net 17 times in 38 league games last time out, with only Bruno Fernandes, Salah and Kane scoring more times.

Aubameyang is Arsenal’s only player to feature on this list despite being one of many to have a below-par season last time out, following a lot of speculation about the Gabonese man’s contract at the Emirates Stadium.

As mentioned above, the 32-year-old managed to win the Golden Boot with 22 goals in 2018/19 and matched the same tally in the following season, but missed out on the award for a second time running by one goal to Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy, but, following just 10 goals in 29 league games last time out, Aubameyang is priced at 22/1 although he shouldn’t be underestimated.

Inevitably Fernandes also makes the list of those that are in the running to win the Golden Boot in the 2021/22 season with the odds of 25/1.

Since joining Manchester United the Portuguese midfielder has been nothing short of sensational, scoring 18 and assisting 12 in his first full season last time out, where he played 37 of United’s league matches.

The 26-year-old also managed 15 goal contributions in his first 14 league games for the Red Devils, showing that he is one that can’t be ruled out of the running despite being a midfielder due to the sheer numbers that he generates.

2015/16 Premier League winner Vardy’s Golden Boot odds stand at 28/1 for the upcoming season, despite only winning the accolade as recently as the 2019/20 campaign where he notched up 23 goals in 35 games.

Vardy has scored a staggering 113 league goals since the start of the 2015/16 season and his 15 last season might be one of his lower tallies in recent years, but it still saw the 34-year-old finish as the seventh top scorer in England’s top-flight, averaging a goal every 190 minutes with 67 shots, which is 42 efforts less than Kane had on goal.

Finally, Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton makes an appearance following his best season to date in 2020/21, showing good levels of maturity as the England international scored 16 goals in 33 appearances, a goal ratio of one every 180 minutes on the pitch.

The 24-year-old has been improving year upon year having scored 13 in the 2019/20 season and his tally last season all came in a defensive setup under Carlo Ancelotti, which saw the Toffees register 400 shots in 38 matches, the sixth-worst record in the division.
