League One Predictions & Odds 2021/22

League One Outright Winners Odds

The League One title race is expected to be a close one in the upcoming season, as the odds suggest as both Ipswich Town and Sunderland come in as favourites at 7/1 in what is their second and third seasons at this level since being relegated from the Championship.

Recently relegated Sheffield Wednesday are set to be their closest challengers at 8/1, whilst a series of good summer additions have seen the likes of Charlton Athletic and Wigan have the odds of 11/1 ahead of Lincoln City at 12/1, despite the Imps being beaten in the playoff final last season by Blackpool.

Sunderland finished fourth having faltered late on in this season and then suffered a 3-2 aggregate defeat to Lincoln City in the play-offs, but, their good run of form came under Lee Johnson who took over from Phil Parkinson back in December and managed to win 19 and draw 12 of his first 39 matches in charge of the Black Cats. With the squad at Johnson’s disposal as well as the football which they played at times last season under the former Bristol City manager, they are rightly the favourites to win League One.

Golden Boot Odds

Charlie Wyke and Joe Pigott are the two favourites to finish as the Golden Boot winner in League One and are priced at 10/1 to do so. Last season, Wyke managed to score 26 in the league and was only outscored by Jonson Clarke-Harris of Peterborough, whilst Pigott managed 20 despite playing for AFC Wimbledon who finished in 19th place. Since then, Pigott has transferred to Ipswich Town and if he hits the ground running then he could well fire the Tractor Boys on their way back to the Championship.

Oxford United striker Matty Taylor will be looking to add to the 18 he scored in 46 appearances in his debut season at the Kassam Stadium and is priced at 11/1, meanwhile Charlton’s Jayden Stockley impressed in the second half of the season on loan from Championship outfit Preston North End, bagging eight in 22 matches which sees the former Exeter City man priced at 12/1 to win the Golden Boot.

Relegation Odds

Morecambe are the favourites to be relegated at 1/1 having beaten all the odds to be promoted to League One via the playoffs at the expense of Newport County in the final at Wembley.

Fellow newly-promoted sides in Cambridge United and Cheltenham Town are priced at 6/4 and 7/4 to be relegated straight back to League Two. What may hamper Cambridge is the shock departure of League Two Golden Boot winner Paul Mullin who scored 32 goals in 46 matches, as the 26-year-old moved to National League outfit Wrexham.

AFC Wimbledon are in a similar position to Cambridge having lost Pigott to Ipswich as mentioned above and are priced at 11/4 which is the same odds as Accrington Stanley.

Other Odds to Look out for

Sunderland are priced at 13/2 to score the most goals in the division, whilst Oxford United who were the third top scorers last time out under Karl Robinson with 77 goals in 46 matches are priced at 12/1 to be the top-scoring side in the league.

Some other odds to look out for are from the category of the top finishing southern team in 21/22 as Ipswich and Charlton are priced at 10/3 and 9/2, of which the Tractor Boys are the joint-favourites to win the division alongside Sunderland, meaning that their odds could be good value.
