League One Top Goalscorer Odds

Peterborough United captain Jonson Clarke-Harris will be looking to refind his form from the last time the club were in League One.

The former Coventry City striker played an integral part for Posh as they finished second place in England’s third-tier in 2020/21 as he fired in 31 goals and created three assists in 45 matches - winning the Golden Boot that campaign.

His last season in League One prior to winning the Golden Boot also saw him have a solid goal tally whilst at Bristol Rovers, as he scored 13 in 26 matches, showing that he is a more than capable striker at this level.

Michael Smith made the shock move from Rotherham United to Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday in the summer and will be desperate to emulate last season’s goalscoring form.

The 30-year-old Wallsend-born striker found the back of the net 18 times and created six assists in 45 League One appearances for the Millers as they finished as runners-up to champions Wigan Athletic.

This goal tally came after Smith managed a decent record in the Championship during the 2020/21 season when he scored 10 and created three assists in 44 matches.

Oxford United’s Matty Taylor is a player that has proven to be reliable for his hometown club, having scored 58 and created 16 assists in 135 appearances since his loan move from Bristol City in 2019, before making it a permanent deal just one year later.

Taylor had another superb season for United once again last season, as he scored 22 times in 44 matches, as well as creating five assists.

The 32-year-old has a history of being named as a Golden Boot winner, doing so in the 2015/16 season for Bristol Rovers in League Two when he found the back of the net 27 times.

The second Peterborough striker to make this list comes in the shape of Jack Marriott.

Marriott has only played one full season at League One level, which came back in 2017/18 when he scored 27 goals in 44 matches, earning the 27-year-old a move to Championship promotion hopefuls Derby County in 2018, who he notably scored for in their play-off final defeat to Aston Villa at the end of the 2018/19 campaign.

Having struggled throughout his spell at Derby and in a loan move to Sheffield Wednesday, Marriott returned to Posh last season where he scored a respectable nine goals in 26 league appearances and will hope to further rejuvenate his career with a good goal tally in League One this time around.

The final player in this list also plays for Sheffield Wednesday, as Lee Gregory looks to stake his claim for the Golden Boot award in 2022/23.

Gregory managed 16 in 36 for his hometown club last season and overall, has a very good record in League One, scoring 51 and assisting 15 goals in 114 appearances in England’s third-tier, potentially making him a dark-horse for the award this campaign.

With the new signings that Wednesday have made, as well as a potential strike partner in Smith, there is a chance that Gregory could be a benefactor and improve on last season’s total as the Owls look to earn promotion back to the Championship.
