10 January Transfers You May Have Missed

During the January transfer window, there is always a lot of hype as speculation and rumours heat up, while transfer moves are made. However, due to the sheer volume of transfers, there are always deals which go under the radar of many fans, here, we have compiled a list of ten transfers that you may have missed in the current transfer window.

Goncalo Guedes: Wolves to Benfica (loan)

In August 2022, Wolves signed Portuguese forward Goncalo Guedes for £27.5m from Valencia, with many at Molineux having high hopes for the 26-year-old. However, following a spell that saw the Portugal international score just one goal in 13 Premier League appearances, he has been shipped out on loan to Benfica, where he initially started his career off.

Since moving back to Benfica, Guedes has played 100 minutes across two Liga NOS matches, scoring one goal in a 3-0 away victory over Santa Clara.

Steven Caulker: Fatih Karagumruk to Wigan

31-year-old former England centre-back Steven Caulker has made a return to the country of his birth having left Turkish Super Lig outfit Fatih Karagumruk to join Wigan Athletic.

Caulker is now a Sierra Leone international, having made ten appearances for the Leone Stars and leaves Karagumruk having played six league matches for Andrea Pirlo’s men following a permanent transfer from Fenerbahce.

This will be the first time that Caulker has played in England since the end of his three-year spell at QPR in 2017, which also saw him spend time on loan at both Southampton and Liverpool.

Florian Thauvin: Tigres to Udinese

Ex-Newcastle United winger Florian Thauvin has made a return to Europe to join Italian Serie A side Udinese, having left Mexican side Tigres on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old made a total of 38 league appearances for Tigres between 2021 and 2022, managing eight goals. The 2018 World Cup winner could be an inspired signing if he can replicate his spell at Marseille which saw him yield 46 goals in 106 Ligue 1 matches between 2017 and 2021.

Thomas Delaney: Sevilla to Hoffenheim (loan)

Denmark international Thomas Delaney has moved back to the Bundesliga, as Sevilla look to make a host of changes to a squad which currently sits 13th in La Liga, just two points above the relegation zone.

The 31-year-old joined Sevilla in 2021 from Borussia Dortmund after a successful stint at the Signal Iduna Park which saw him score in the 2021 DFB Pokal final as the Black and Yellows beat RB Leipzig.

Delaney has joined a Hoffenheim side that are currently 13th in the Bundesliga, just three points above the relegation zone.

Morgan Schneiderlin: Nice to Western Sydney Wanderers (loan)

Former Manchester United and Everton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has departed French Ligue 1 side Nice to join Western Sydney Wanderers on loan.

Western Sydney Wanderers finished 10th in the A-League last season and the French midfielder joins some interesting names down under, as Wanderers’ have the likes of former Lyon centre-back Marcelo on their books, as well as ex-Newcastle United man Romain Amalfitano and former Middlesbrough defender Rhys Williams.

Victor Kristiansen: FC Copenhagen to Leicester City

Amidst their ongoing defensive issues in the 2022/23 Premier League season, Leicester City signed highly-rated FC Copenhagen left-back Victor Kristiansen for £17m.

The 20-year-old made his Foxes debut as a substitute in their FA Cup victory away at Walsall last weekend. Kristiansen made 51 appearances in the Danish Superliga for Copenhagen, helping them to win the league title last season.

Viktor Tsyhankov: Dynamo Kyiv to Girona

Ukraine winger Viktor Tsyhankov made the switch from Dynamo Kyiv to la Liga outfit for a measly fee of just €5m euros, with a 50% sell-on-clause in Kyiv’s favour.

The 25-year-old has made a total of 43 appearances for Ukraine, while his record for Dynamo is very impressive, netting 94 goals and creating 64 assists in 236 appearances. Could he be the signing of the window when considering his price tag?

Girona fans will hope so as they are 12th in La Liga, but, just two points above the relegation zone.

Javier Pastore: Elche to Qatar SC

Ex-PSG and AS Roma midfielder Javier Pastore has left Europe to play for Qatar Stars League outfit Qatar SC, who finished ninth in the table last season and are under the management of former Norwich City midfielder Youssef Safri.

Pastore will be able to link up with former Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez who also plies his trade at Qatar SC. The 33-year-old made just 14 La Liga appearances since joining Elche back in September 2021.

Fabio Da Silva: Nantes to Gremio

32-year-old former Manchester United and Cardiff City right-back has returned to his homeland to join Brazilian Serie A side Gremio.

Fabio has joined Gremio from French Ligue 1 side Nantes where he plied his trade at for four years, notably helping them to win the Coupe de France last season at the expense of Nice.

Notably, the twin brother of Rafael Da Silva will be a teammate of former Liverpool duo Luis Suarez and Lucas Leiva at his new club.

Cyle Larin: Club Brugge to Real Valladolid (loan)

Canada’s all-time top scorer Cyle Larin has left Belgian Pro League side Club Brugge to join Real Valladolid on loan.

Larin has scored 25 goals in 58 caps for the Maple Leafs and has made just nine league appearances at his parent club since joining in July 2022 on a permanent basis from Besiktas.

Valladolid are 17th in the table, just one point above the relegation zone in Spain’s top-flight and have scored 14 goals in 19 matches, a tally that will have to be improved upon if they are to avoid relegation to the Spanish Segunda.
