James

Lionel Messi

Rumours have started to circulate around Messi's future and whether the newly crowned UEFA’s Best player winner will keep challenging himself in Europe or collect a paycheck somewhere else.

If the world champion were to stay in Europe, the two options seem to be either remain at PSG and try and dominate French football for the back end of his career or make a romantic return to Barcelona after he was made to leave after his 20 years at the club.

Luka Modric

Despite being 37 years old, Luka Modric is not slowing down for Real Madrid or Croatia and with his football style, he could play in a top league for many more years and has admitted he wants to stay at the club despite not opening up contract talks yet.

Madrid have surprised people over the years by letting go of key players for younger players, for example, Cristiano Ronaldo for Vincius Jr and Casemiro for Aurlien Tchouemeni, so Modric’s contract talks could depend on Madrid’s potential pursuit of Jude Bellingham.

Toni Kroos

Along with his teammate Luka Modric, Toni Kroos’ contract is also expiring this summer, and with Casemiro leaving for Old Trafford last summer, it could be the end of an era for Real Madrid as all three midfielders that dominated European football for many years could be out of the club.

Many clubs would be interested in signing Kroos, as at 33 years old, he is still arguably the best passer of the football in the world and if he ages like Modric, he could many years left at the top level at a new club.

Youri Tielemans

Despite being 25 years old, Tielemans looks to be leaving Leicester City on a free transfer after 4 and a half seasons at the club as contract talks never seemed to get to an advanced stage.

Tielemans has always attracted interest by some of Europe's top clubs ever since his move to Leicester in 2019, mostly from the Premier League, and with him moving for free, top clubs will be circling for a player of his quality on a free transfer.

Ilkay Gundogan

After scoring the goal to win Manchester City their second consecutive Premier League last season and starting 18 Premier League games this season, Gundogan has been given free rein by manager Pep Guardiola to decide his upcoming future.

Recent reports seem to suggest that Barcelona are interested in the 32-year-old, with the Spanish club still working on financial restraints and possibly looking to add experience to their midfield with the potential exit of Sergio Busquets, who looks likely to join the MLS this summer.

Evan Ndicka

It's not often someone as young and talented as Ndicka comes on the market for a cheap price, let alone on a free, with the 23-year-old possessing all the modern abilities of a defender to play at the highest level of football.

Ndicka played a major role in Eintracht Frankfurt’s Europa League win last season and now the race for his signature seems to be between Tottenham and Barcelona, who are both looking for a new left-footed centre-back.

Marcus Thuram

Enduring the best season of his career, scoring 11 goals in 21 matches for Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga, Marcus Thuram looks to cap it off with a move to an elite club.

Thuram has always had the ability to become one of Europe’s elite forwards, and now with him seemingly putting it all together this season, he would cost tens of millions if he had a few years left on his contract, which is why big clubs like Chelsea and PSG are looking at the Frenchman.

Adrien Rabiot

After rejecting a possible move to Manchester United last summer, Rabiot looks set again to engage with contract talks, this time on a free transfer with the 27-year-old Frenchman yet to agree a new contract with Juventus.

Top Premier League clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal are reportedly interested in Rabiot if he doesn’t extend his stay in Turin and with the prospect of Juventus missing out on Champions League football likely after their points deduction, a move elsewhere could have become more enticing.

Wilfried Zaha

After the last nine years of being the main man for Crystal Palace, it looks as if Zaha is set to move on from the Eagles with him at the age of 30 looking for what is his last chance at a massive new contract or another chance at a top side after his failed move to Manchester United earlier in his career, where he only appeared twice.

A move to London opposition Spurs is his most reported destination and while that might not go down with Crystal Palace fans after Zaha’s 433 appearances for the club, it could potentially be Zaha’s opportunity at last at playing European football.

Raphael Guerreiro

After 7 years as first-choice left-back, Raphael Guerreiro looks to be moving away from Borussia Dortmund this summer on a free transfer with Dortmund already looking to replace the 29-year-old with Mochengladbach’s left-back Remy Bensebaini, also on a free transfer.

With Guerreiro being one of the most elite attacking full backs in Europe, already matching his 2nd best season for assists this year, which will make him in high demand this summer.
