Marcos Alonso Transfer News & Odds

31-year-old Chelsea left-wing-back Marcos Alonso could be on the verge of an exit from Stamford Bridge following plenty of interest in the Spaniard's services from clubs in his homeland, as well as England.

Alonso joined the Blues from Fiorentina in August 2016 for a fee of £24m and was a huge success under Antonio Conte, featuring 31 times, scoring six goals as he won the Premier League title in his first season at Stamford Bridge. Since then, Alonso has managed to win the FA Cup, Europa League, Champions League, Club World Cup and a UEFA Super Cup.

With just one year left on his contract and seeming as though his place at Chelsea may be growing uncertain now that Ben Chilwell has recovered from a lengthy injury, perhaps the Spaniard is weighing up an exit himself alongside fellow teammate Cesar Azpilicueta.

Real Madrid 9/1
Newcastle United 12/1
Tottenham Hotspur 14/1

Barcelona Odds: 1/3

Barcelona are the firm favourites to sign Alonso from Chelsea as their only senior left-back option still remains as Jordi Alba who is now 33 years old.

When Alba isn’t fit, they are forced to use Sergino Dest, a right-back at left-back, hence why it is important that they fill this role with some depth. Alonso, like Alba is also a Spain international and is known for his attacking qualities, something which Barcelona full-backs must have in their game.

With Alonso also having just one year left on his deal at Chelsea, Barca will be able to sign him on a cut-price fee, and with it looking like Andreas Christensen and Azpilicueta are set to join the Nou Camp club, perhaps Alonso could be on his way too.

Real Madrid Odds: 9/1

Could a return to Real be on for Alonso having started his career at the Santiago Bernabeu?

Alonso made just one La Liga appearance for Real, as well as playing 39 league matches for Real Madrid Castilla before moving to Bolton Wanderers in 2010. To add to this, his grandfather also played for Los Blancos, although his dad featured for Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

With legendary full-back Marcelo leaving Real at the end of last season, could Alonso be cheap and temporary cover for the likes of Ferland Mendy? With just one year left on his deal, the Spaniard could be in contention for a move to the Santiago Bernabeu as a squad player for what would be the final few seasons of his career.

Alonso is priced at 9/1 to make the switch to Real Madrid.

Newcastle United Odds: 12/1

Newcastle have been linked with signing plenty of players, with Alonso’s name also being added to their list of targets.

At present, the Magpies' current left-back options stand at Matt Targett, Jamal Lewis, Paul Dummett and Javier Manquillo, meaning that this is an area in the squad that can be significantly improved upon.

With Alonso’s deal running out at the end of next season, he would come at a fairly small fee for a player of his quality and would offer an excellent attacking outlet, similarly to that of Kieran Trippier on the right-hand side of the defence.

Alonso is priced at 12/1 to join Newcastle ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Tottenham Hotspur Odds: 14/1

The final team on this list of clubs interested in Alonso is Tottenham Hotspur, with the Spaniard known to be a favourite of Conte’s during his time as Chelsea manager.

Under Conte, Alonso played a vital part in Chelsea’s Premier League and FA Cup successes and was frequently linked with a move to Inter before the Italian departed the Nerrazurri as Serie A champions.

With Alonso being familiar to Conte’s setup, as well as being an experienced individual which is the type of player that the Italian tends to favour, could a shock move to Spurs be on the cards?

Alonso is priced at 14/1 to reunite with Conte at Spurs this summer.
