The last Gameweek before the World Cup is upon us. Unlimited transfers are available during the tournament, meaning this week is the perfect opportunity to opt for a one-game punt. Here are my top five picks for Gameweek 16.

Brighton had a rather disappointing start to October, however, in recent weeks, their performances have drastically improved. The Seagulls have won their last three games in all competitions, with Japanese winger Kaoru Mitoma being the difference maker.
Mitoma has accumulated two goals and one assist in his last three matches. Having started only two of these games in the Premier League, the former Royale Union Saint-Gilloise player has an expected goals/assist of 0.72 across his only two starts this season.
The left-sided attacker should maintain his place in the starting XI for Sunday’s tie against Aston Villa. Most FPL managers will have opted for the trustworthy Trossard, but if you are looking for a good value differential with impressive stats then Mitoma could be a great option in midfield.
West Ham United will be optimistic when they take on Leicester this weekend. The Hammers face a side that has conceded an average of 2.7 goals on the road this season. Although West Ham have been extremely inconsistent, Said Benrahma is currently in a good run of form.
The Algerian has two goals and one assist this season in six starts, with them all coming within his last five Premier League matches. A popular strategy in FPL is to pick players based on form rather than fixtures, yet in Benrahma’s case, he also has a solid fixture. When combining the two previous factors it seems that the winger is an underrated pick for GW16.
Averaging 32 minutes per game in the Premier League due to injury, Anthony Martial has impressively accumulated two goals and two assists. When fit, there’s no doubt that the Frenchman is Erik ten Hag’s first choice up front.
Manchester United travel to Craven Cottage on Sunday, where they will hope to amend their poor performance last weekend. Home games for Fulham have seen plenty of goals this season, averaging 3.43 goals per game. They also have conceded the second most goals at home this season which indicates that the Red Devils will create numerous chances. Martial has a high chance of a goal contribution also, due to his ability to link up play and create chances for his teammates.
With Callum Wilson potentially a doubt and Aleksandar Mitrovic seemingly out, most FPL managers will be looking for an attacking replacement this gameweek.
Top-of-the-table Arsenal travel to Wolves this weekend with the aim to finish strong before the World Cup break. Wolves currently have the worst record for goals scored in the league this season at home, averaging 0.71 per game. Away from home this season, Arsenal have the best record for least goals conceded, only conceding 0.57 goals per game.
An Arsenal clean sheet almost seems inevitable, especially when Wolves don’t have an out-and-out striker following Diego Costa’s red card.
Any Arsenal defender will be a good pick for this week, yet I have opted for Gabriel given his aerial ability from set pieces. Last week the Brazilian received 15 points and there is a high chance he can replicate similar points this week.
The centre-back has scored twice this season, showing he can be a threat in the opposition’s box. If you are looking to bring in a defender, I highly recommend Gabriel. As previously mentioned, it does seem that this fixture is a 6-point clean sheet lock so anything on top of that from an attacking perspective will lead to a haul.
One of the most transferred in players of GW16 is Darwin Nunez. Liverpool face Southampton who are under a new manager in Nathan Jones following the sacking of Ralph Hasenhuttl.
Nunez has unbelievable stats from an FPL perspective. An expected goals of 0.90 per 90 minutes and an expected assists of 0.36 puts him amongst the best in the league. The Uruguayan receives plenty of chances each game and that will continue on Saturday.
He has three goals and two assists in the Premier League, yet he is actually underperforming his XG/XA indicating that those statistics could be much better if his finishing improved. The forward also averages 6.2 shots per game, which is important as average shots is something you should consider when selecting an attacking player in FPL.
Liverpool have scored the third most goals at home this season and they will be looking to keep up the momentum they have gained from defeating Napoli and Spurs. I expect Liverpool to win this game comfortably and Nunez to be amongst the action. He is the best pick of Gameweek 16 and many FPL experts seem to agree!
