Arsenal will be expected to be challenging Manchester City for the Premier League crown having finished as runners-up in back-to-back league campaigns.
Chelsea managed to vastly improve over the second half of last season’s Premier League campaign which resulted in them earning a sixth-place finish.
Burnley and Luton will be keen to make amends for their Premier League relegations last season. The Clarets have a manager in Scott Parker that has earned two promotions from the Championship with Fulham in 2019/20 and while managing Bournemouth in 2021/22. Meanwhile, Rob Edwards earned promotion with Luton in 2023 after winning League Two with Forest Green during the 2021/22 campaign.
Bolton have finished in the play-off places in each of the last two seasons, while both of Rotherham’s last two League One campaigns have resulted in promotion (2019/20 and 2021/22).
Doncaster Rovers will be aiming to take last season’s momentum into this campaign, as Grant McCann’s men sneaked into the play-off places in 2023/24 after going on a 10-game winning run. MK Dons were beaten play-off semi-finalists in League Two last season and will be aiming to fight for the automatic promotion places this time out.
Leicester City are expected to struggle in the Premier League this season having seen the departures of key players such as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Kelechi Iheanacho, Harry Souttar, Dennis Praet and Mark Albrighton. The Foxes also have an impeding points deduction looming over them.
Plymouth Argyle avoided relegation by just one point in the 2023/24 season and will need Wayne Rooney to improve his managerial win percentage as the 38-year-old won just two of 15 matches in charge of Birmingham City last season.
Daniel Farke will be keen to maintain his excellent record as a manager in the Championship, as the German managed to win the league with Norwich City in 2018/19 and 2020/21.
Middlesbrough finished fourth in their first season under current manager Michael Carrick and even reached the League Cup semi-finals in 2023/24. The Boro missed out on the play-offs by just four points having found form towards the end of the season.
As mentioned above, Rotherham have a good record in League One as they have been promoted in each of their last two seasons in the division. On top of this, Steve Evans has earned eight promotions during his managerial career.
Leeds are expected to be in contention to win the league as they have a more settled squad at the start of the upcoming season than they did in 2023/24. As mentioned above, they also have a a manager with a proven track record of winning the Championship in Daniel Farke.
Luton and Bolton will be keen to finish in at least the play-off places - The Hatters finished as the best relegated Premier League side during the 2023/24 season and have retained the majority of their squad from last time out. Meanwhile, Bolton have finished in the League One play-offs in back-to-back seasons.
Birmingham are the firm favourites to win League One following their lavish summer spending spree of over £10m which has seen them acquire the likes of Alfie May who has 84 goal contributions in 204 League One matches.
MK Dons finished fourth in League Two last season and have made some impressive signings this summer, having acquired Tommy Leigh, Sam Sherring, Tom Carroll, Luke Offord, Joe Pritchard, Connor Lemonheigh-Evans, Laurence Maguire, Callum Hendry, Liam Kelly and more.
