5 Premier League Tips for the Weekend’s Action - 13/8/22

Manchester City vs Bournemouth: Haaland to Score a Brace - 15/8

New signing Erling Haaland scored twice against West Ham on his debut last week, and we are backing him to score once again in Manchester City’s next fixture when the Citizens take on newly promoted Bournemouth.

The Cherries do have some good players in their side for their first season back in the top flight, but they do not have enough for the firepower that City possess, and that is why we think that the Norwegian will definitely score in this one.

As a result of Haaland’s goals, we expect a City win in this one – City have won all 10 of their Premier League games against Bournemouth and in all 17 meetings between the 2 sides, the best that Bournemouth have managed to muster is 2 draws – one in 1989 and one in 1999, both in Division Two.

Southampton vs Leeds: Leeds to win & Both Teams to Score - 4/1

Leeds travel south to take on Southampton on Saturday, and Jesse Marsch’s side will take confidence into the game after their opening day 2-1 win over perennial mid-table side Wolves.

Leeds will also take encouragement from the performances of some of their new signings – Brenden Aaronson, Marc Roca and Tyler Adams all impressed in the win over Wolves.

The Saints, in stark contrast, were destroyed 4-1 by Tottenham on the opening day. The impressive James Ward-Prowse did manage to get himself on the scoresheet, but it was a poor performance from Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.

Southampton will be looking to get points on the board to kickstart their season and will certainly put up a fight here, but we think that Leeds’ quality and form coming into this will propel them to a win.

Brighton vs Newcastle: Leandro Trossard & Bruno Guimaraes to both score - 12/1

Both of these sides scored opening day wins, so the result of this fixture will be tough to call.

Based on the history of this fixture, you would predict Graham Potter’s side to be the winners. Brighton have won four, drawn four and lost just once in the last nine Premier League meetings between these two sides.

But, Newcastle are a much-improved side from who they were a few years ago, and that is what makes this hard to call. Bruno Guimaraes managed to score five times last season as he made an instant impact for the club after signing in the January transfer window, and we think he’ll get off the mark for this season in this match.

For Brighton, Leandro Trossard was their joint top-scorer in the league last season, and he has scored twice in this fixture previously, so that is why we expect him on the scoresheet in this one.

Arsenal vs Leicester City: Gabriel Jesus to score Anytime - 10/11

Despite making a strong start in their opening day clash with Brentford, Leicester City conceded two second-half goals, including one four minutes from time. It was not a convincing performance from Brendan Rodgers’ side, and it doesn’t look to be getting any easier as they travel to North London to take on an Arsenal side full of confidence.

The Gunners beat Crystal Palace 2-0 in the opening game of the season, and their new signings performed well in that game. Gabriel Jesus especially played well and was a nuisance all night and was unlucky not to score, but in this match against a poor Leicester side who are in a bad state, we think that Jesus will score his first Premier League goal for the Gunners.

Brentford vs Manchester United: Both Teams to Score - 8/13

While Brentford managed to secure a 2-2 draw against Leicester in their opening game, Manchester United suffered an embarrassing defeat to Brighton in their opener.

The result of this one will be a hard one to predict, due to Manchester United’s lack of quality in defensive areas and the unpredictability of Brentford. But, we do think that there will be goals in this one.

Erik ten Hag’s side still have players that can get a goal out of nowhere such as Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen and especially Cristiano Ronaldo. But Brentford are a well-drilled, compact side and have players that offer attacking threat going forward such as Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo, and have also strengthened by bringing in Ben Mee and the attack-minded Aaron Hickey. So this should be a game with some goals in it.
