          Brentford vs West Ham Prediction

Both sides come into this game looking to bounce back from league defeats last weekend. However, we are backing the hosts Brentford to continue West Ham’s disappointing start to the season. Recent history favours the home side, as two of the last three meetings between the pair at the Gtech Community Stadium have ended in a 2-0 win to the Bees. Brentford have also won both of their home games so far and will be confident in extending this streak. The Hammers have struggled of late, winning just once so far and losing 3-0 in their latest game to London rivals Chelsea.

The visitors have not kept a clean sheet in their last three games against Brentford, and the hosts have scored the first goal in five of the last seven. Bryan Mbuemo is likely to make an attacking impact following a strong start. He has already scored four goals this season and averages 1.4 shots on target per game – Brentford 2-0 West Ham

Brentford vs West Ham: Preview & Prediction

West Ham make the trip across London to face Brentford in another derby, as they look to record their second win of the season.

          Date: 28/09/24

          Kick-off time: 15:00

          Venue: Gtech Community Stadium

It has been a rough start for new West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui, after he took over from David Moyes in the summer. After five games, the Hammers are in 14th place with four points following a win and a draw. They are now winless in three league games thanks to defeats to Man City and Chelsea and a draw with Fulham. The performance in the 3-0 defeat at home to Chelsea was of particular concern, especially because of how easy the Blues found space in attack.

They will look to rectify their form at Brentford, who have enjoyed a slightly better start. Thomas Frank’s side are a couple of places above their opponents in 12th, with six points. They have won two games, though their three defeats have come against Liverpool, Tottenham and Man City.

The West Ham defence should be wary of a dangerous Brentford attack. Despite the loss of Ivan Toney, the Bees have managed to score in all but one game so far. This is due to the pair up front, Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo. The duo have already combined for seven goals this season, after recording 21 between them last campaign. Unfortunately for the hosts, Wissa has been ruled out with an ankle injury which could keep him sidelined for an extended period of time. This leaves a lot of the responsibility on the shoulders of Mbeumo, but he has shown he is more than capable.

Mbeumo should be confident in breaching a defence which has already allowed nine goals, the joint-third worst in the division. The visitors have kept just one clean sheet, and let in at least two goals in three of their five games. They have not had much success going forward either, scoring five times. No player has scored more than once, and they are still waiting for new signing Niclas Fullkrug to get off the mark. Despite their struggles, there is still plenty of talent going forward. The Brentford back four will have the task of keeping the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudud and Crysencio Summerville quiet.

Since Brentford’s promotion to the top flight in 2021, they have played West Ham six times in the Premier League. It is a fixture that has been dominated by the Bees, with five wins to the Hammers’ one. This includes five in a row, before West Ham picked up their only win in the most recent meeting at the London Stadium. The two games last season produced plenty of goals, with Brentford winning 3-2 at home and losing 4-2 away. They had kept three league clean sheets in a row before this.

          Where to Watch

Brentford vs Fulham will not be available to watch on TV in the UK.

          Team News

          Brentford

Thomas Frank was dealt a huge blow when Yoane Wissa hurt his ankle, an injury which will keep him out for up to two months. Christian Norgaard was out last weekend, but is expected to be available for selection vs West Ham. Rico Henry could also be nearing a return.

          West Ham

Julen Lopetegui should have a fully fit squad to choose from. Niclas Fullkrug will be the only doubt, as he missed last weekend’s fixture. However, the expectation is that he should return. Edson Alvarez will miss the game after picking up a red card in the Carabao Cup. Given recent results, the Hammers’ boss could make some changes to the starting lineup.

          Form Guide

          Brentford

In their last five games, Brentford have won three and lost two. It has been a promising start to the campaign for the Bees, and this run began with a 1-0 win at lower league Chesterfield in the EFL Cup. They advanced to the third round thanks to a Keane Lewis-Potter strike on the stroke of half-time.

Before the international break they hosted Southampton, beating them 3-1. Yoane Wissa scored the third goal following a Bryan Mbeumo brace. The visitors scored a late consolation. They then faced a tricky trip to league leaders Man City. They suffered their second defeat of the season, losing 2-1. Wissa gave them the lead one minute in, but a brace from Erling Haaland turned it around.

Attention shifted back to EFL Cup action where they faced lower league opposition again in Leyton Orient. They were 3-1 winners at home, coming from behind with goals from Fabio Carvalho, Mikkel Damsgaard and Christian Norgaard. Last time out Brentford travelled to Tottenham. Despite taking another early lead through Mbeumo, they could not hold on as they lost 2-1.

          West Ham

In their last five games, West Ham have won one, drawn one and lost three. It has been a poor start to the season for the Hammers, though they have faced some tough opponents. The first game of this run was their only win at home in the EFL Cup against Bournemouth. Bowen’s 88th-minute goal sent West Ham through as 1-0 winners.

The last league game before the international break was at home to Champions Man City. Erling Haaland put the visitors ahead before an own goal tied it against the run of play. Haaland could not be stopped though as he scored twice more. They followed this with a London Derby at Fulham. The visitors came away with a 1-1 draw after Danny Ings equalised in the 95th minute following a Raul Jimenez opener.

Another derby against Chelsea ended in defeat. They were dominated 3-0 by the Blues at home, with goals from Nicolas Jackson (x2) and Cole Palmer condemning them to a loss. A trip to Anfield in the EFL Cup was their latest game, however their journey came to an end with a 5-1 thrashing, despite taking the lead.
