In the past, a team scoring 100 points in the Championship would be widely expected to have a strong chance of staying up. The gap between the top two tiers has rapidly grown in recent years though, and Burnley are heavily odds on to go straight back down despite finishing 2nd with 100 points in 2024/2025.
They've also spent about £70 million in the summer window. This money has been spread across a number of players, including Louman Tchaouna (Lazio), Bashir Humpreheys (Chelsea), Marcus Edwards (Sporting CP) and Quilindschy Hartman (Feyenoord). Jaidon Antony's successful loan deal has been converted into a permanent deal, Kyle Walker has joined on a free and they've held on to all their main players from last season too.
The big question mark over Burnley is how their defensive style will hold up in the Premier League. They conceded just 16 goals in 46 games last season, but also scored just 69 - that's 26 less than champions Leeds and two less than 13th placed Norwich...
Given the potency of the strike forces they'll be facing this season the feeling from bookmakers is that they will struggle to outscore other teams this season.
