West Ham United vs Manchester City Prediction

The Champions Manchester City will be the overwhelming favourites for this game. The Citizens have won their last four on the bounce and have a 100% record this season. Pep Guardiola's side are unbeaten in their previous six against West Ham United, with the Hammers failing to keep a clean sheet in that time.

This match usually provides goals with four of the last five meetings landing the over 2.5 market. Erling Haaland has begun his season in the typical fashion you expect from the Norwegian striker.
Haaland has four goals in two games this season and has scored in two of his last three games against West Ham United. Haaland also scored on his Manchester City debut against West Ham United back in 2022.

For these reasons, we can’t see anything other than a win for Manchester City. Kevin de Bruyne being fit and ready for the away side has been a boost early doors and West Ham United doesn’t have a particularly great record against the Champions.

West Ham United vs Manchester City Preview & Prediction

The Saturday Evening showcase in the Premier League pits two Spanish managers against one another in the Premier League for the first time. Pep Guardiola takes his Manchester City juggernaut to East London to face Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham United at the London Stadium.

          Date: 31/08/2024

          Location: London Stadium

          Kick-Off: 5.30 pm

West Ham United has overturned the regime over the summer, which has seen successful manager David Moyes depart the club after many years and replaced by former Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui. Since his arrival, the Spaniard has brought in the likes of Crysencio Summerville from Leeds United, Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United, Jean Clair-Todibo from OGC Nice, Max Kilman from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Niklas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund. In the first two games, though, Lopetegui has used four of his summer signings on the bench, with only Kilman starting and performing very well.

Manchester City have started the season like all good champions do as they pursue an unprecedented five in a row in the Premier League. Pep Guardiola’s side have added the likes of Savinho and the returning Ilkay Gundogan back to their ranks following his one-year spell at Barcelona. The Citizens began their campaign with the curtain-raiser opener against Manchester United in the Community Shield, which they won on penalties. The Champions opened up their defence with a comfortable 2-0 defeat of Chelsea, with goals from Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic.

In the most recent league meeting between the two teams, Manchester City wrapped up the league title by beating West Ham United 3-1. Phil Foden was on hand with a brace to cap off a fantastic season for the England international, with Rodri sealing the victory late on.

          Where to watch

          Form Guide

As mentioned, The Citizens have won their last four on the bounce and have a 100% record this season. Pep Guardiola's side are unbeaten in their previous six against West Ham United, with the Hammers failing to keep a clean sheet in that time. The last time the Hammers secured a win over Manchester City was in 2015 when Diafra Sakho and Victor Moses scored in the first half to seal the win for the Irons.

West Ham United head into this game with two wins from their last five and only two wins from their previous seven in competitive fixtures. Last season, the Hammers ended the season with only one win in their previous eight games, and on that run, they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City. West Ham United’s last home win was in a 3-1 scoreline over relegated Luton Town at the London Stadium. In West Ham’s previous game, they secured an impressive 2-0 win over London rivals Crystal Palace thanks to goals from Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen.

As for the champions, Manchester City haven’t lost a league game since the 6th of December 2023, in which they lost to Aston Villa 1-0. Since then, Manchester City has produced an astonishing run in the league, which captured their fourth league title in a row. In Manchester City’s previous game against Ipswich Town, they showed their true quality in dispatching the newly promoted side.

Manchester City were behind thanks to a goal from new signing Sammie Szmodics, but quickly Pep Guardiola’s side were back in the game with a penalty from Erling Haaland. Wo quickfire goals, one from Haaland and one from Kevin de Bruyne, quickly established a two-goal lead for the Champions. Haaland then capped off a magnificent display by securing his third goal close to the full-time whistle.
