Sergej Milinkovic-Savic linked with mega money Manchester United transfer

Big Man Utd Transfer News

The re-building job at Manchester United following their disastrous 2018/19 campaign is a big one, but it hasn't been as full-on as many expected.

After finishing 6th in the Premier League many expected to see a big turnover in players but as of yet there's only been a couple of additions, with Swansea City's Daniel James & £50m man Aaron Wan-Bissaka making the move to the north west.

United are regulars in transfer rumour columns, with them linked with pretty much every big player under the sun. But one man they already own is generating most of the headlines, with Paul Pogba's future at the club the subject of much debate.

He's made it clear to officials that he wants to move on from Old Trafford, with a return to Juventus or a move to Real Madrid in the offing. The Red Devils have made it clear they want to retain their club record signing, but it's believed that they won't stand in his way should they receive an offer in the region of £150m.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to strengthen the United midfield regardless of whether Paul Pogba stays or goes

But regardless of whether he stays or goes, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the market for a new midfielder to bolster his options following the departure of Ander Herrera to PSG and he has a couple of targets in mind.

The Norwegian is looking to bring young, hungry players to United which has led to links with Newcastle United man Sean Longstaff, which was a bit of a surprise considering he's made just 9 Premier League appearances.

But one name which will get United fans excited is that of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who is said to be seriously interesting the Red Devils. The Serbian international has built a big reputation for himself over in Serie A with Lazio as one of the games best up & coming midfielders and he looks tailor-made for the English game.

His current club are demanding huge money for him but is he worth it? We've had a look at what he could bring to the top flight...

The next Paul Pogba?

When you look at Manchester United's current main man in Paul Pogba you see someone who is the complete midfielder. He's fantastic on the ball, he can tackle, he can score goals, he can find a man and he's an athlete - he has it all.

He's both brilliant but frustratingly inconsistent which has made some Manchester United fans turn on him, which admittedly isn't helped by his desire to leave the club. But if they could capture Milinkovic-Savic they would have an excellent teammate, or replacement.

His performances in Serie A have led to him being compared to him and is easy to see the link between the pair. The 24 year-old is an imposing, dominant midfield player who enjoys playing on the front foot and when he's in full flow, he's a tough man to stop.

Add to that he's a capable creator and goalscorer which was emphasised in the 2017/18 campaign when he netted an impressive 14 goals from midfield - a return that caught the attention of many top clubs around the continent.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic Lazio Serbia
Comparisons have been made between Pogba & Milinkovic-Savic have been made and it's easy to see why

Alongside United, the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan and Real Madrid have all been credited with an interest in him over the last couple of years which shows that he is evidently a very good player.

Jose Mourinho was a big admirer of the Serb during his time at Man Utd boss, which even led to him personally scouting the 24 year-old in the flesh back in 2017 and he's been in the clubs sights ever since.

And now it appears that Mourinho's replacement at Old Trafford shares a similar view, with Solskjaer seeing him as the perfect addition to the United engine room.

Although United fans aren't keen on the club retaining Pogba at the moment, the prospect of him and Milinkovic-Savic lining up in midfield is is an exciting one should it come to fruition. They're two players with similar attributes who would certainly compliment each other and we're sure the Frenchmen would appreciate the support of the Serb, with him looking like a frustrated figure on several occasions last term.

How much would Man Utd's Savic transfer cost?

The transfer market these days is brutal. Finding a bargain is harder than ever and that's definitely the case when it comes to Premier League clubs. Sides around the continent know all about the riches of the English game and they're keen to exploit it any way possible, just like players and agents do.

Milinkovic-Savic is one of Lazio's top players and one of the best in Serie A, so if United want him then they're going to have to pay a huge amount.

In the past they're believed to have rejected bids around the £60m mark for him and Sky in Italy are reporting that the Red Devils are ready to offer something in the region of £72m, which if accepted would make him United's third most expensive transfer.

This will be the second £70m+ bid they've made this summer after going for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire and just like the England man, it's also expected to be turned down.

Lazio president Claudio Lotitio knows what a special talent he has on the books and he wants to be rewarded handsomely for him, with the 62 year-old believed to be demanding a figure in the region of £90m for the Serb.

Paul Pogba Manchester United
A move for Milinkovic-Savic could potentially eclipse the club record £89m paid to Juventus for Paul Pogba

It's a huge amount of money and it could potentially break United's club record should it get over the line, so it's going to be really interesting to see what happens.

There's no doubting that Milinkovic-Savic is a superb talent and at the age of 24, he looks ready to make a big move.

His skillset should see him flourish in the Premier League and if he looks like the perfect replacement for Pogba. But if they can get the Frenchmens head back in the game and retain him, the pair of them linking up in midfield could result in very good things for Manchester United fans.

No disrespect to Sean Longstaff who looks like a terrific talent, but this is exactly the kind of signing that would get MUFC supporters out of their seats and prove that they're still a force.

Will Solskjaer break the bank to sign him up? Only time will tell...
