Low Odds, High Odds: Community Shield - Liverpool vs Manchester City

On Saturday at 5 pm, Liverpool and Manchester City meet at the King Power Stadium in Leicester for the 2022/23 season’s traditional curtain raiser, the Community Shield.

This will be the first time that these teams have met here in this competition since 2019, when the Sky Blues edged out Liverpool on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

On top of this, Liverpool and City meet via Liverpool winning the FA Cup final on penalties against Chelsea, whilst Pep Guardiola’s men edged out the Reds in the Premier League title race via a dramatic 3-2 win against Aston Villa on the final day of the season.

In 254 matches for Liverpool, Salah has scored 156 goals and created 63 assists and will be expected to be in the thick of the action this weekend.

Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne has got somewhat of a habit of scoring against Liverpool, as the Belgian playmaker has found the back of the net in three of his last four league matches against the Reds, doing so in each Premier League fixture last campaign which both resulted in 2-2 draws.

Both Darwin Nunez and Erling Haaland will be keen to get off the mark in what is their first official matches for their clubs.

Nunez recently scored four in a 5-0 friendly win over RB Leipzig, whilst Haaland grabbed the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory over German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, perhaps giving an indicator of things to come.

In his last season at Benfica, Nunez scored 34 goals in 41 matches, whilst Haaland’s overall record for Borussia Dortmund stands at 85 goals in 88 games.

In 458 career matches Thiago Alcantara has picked up 62 yellow cards, as he is known for being a player that likes to break up counter-attacks and dangerous pieces of play despite his outstanding technical ability. The former Barcelona man picked up a yellow card in the last league meeting between these two sides.

Meanwhile, Rodri has 52 yellow cards to his name in 324 matches across his career. The Spaniard is known for his aggressive defensive style and picked up five bookings in the Premier League last season.

Salah has a decent record against City, having scored seven in 15 matches against them. Last season, the Egyptian managed to record more shots on target in the Premier League than any other player with 60 in 35 appearances.

When these two sides last met at Wembley, Man City had five corners to Liverpool’s three - this game also saw five yellow cards dished out, with these being given to Gabriel Jesus, Fabinho, Naby Keita, Fernandinho and Sadio Mane.

Phil Foden memorably scored the equaliser at Anfield when these sides drew 2-2 earlier on in the 2021/22 season. The City academy product scored 14 and created 11 assists in 45 appearances last season.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has received 30 yellow cards in 245 matches in his club career for Liverpool.

On the other side, Joao Cancelo has picked up 68 yellow cards in 334 club appearances. The 28-year-old Portugal international received 10 of these last season, with one of them coming in the 2-2 draw at Anfield.
