Manchester United's renaissance under club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continued on Wednesday night when they came through arguably their toughest test yet. The Red Devils travelled to the north east to take on Rafa Benitez's relegation threatened Newcastle United at a freezing St. James' Park - where two second half goals from Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford sealed a 2-0 win and a fourth successive Premier League win. But the victory was slightly overshadowed late on by Magpies midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, who put in a shocking challenge on United talisman Paul Pogba.
The Frenchmen adjusted his body to put himself between Shelvey and the ball as United looked to break forward, but that didn't stop the Newcastle midfielder who flew through the back of him with his studs up. It looked like an incredibly painful one for Pogba who was left in a heap on the floor, before getting up and being restrained by his United teammates. Shelvey knew he got away with one big time and he will most certainly face retrospective action from The FA after the officials failed to pick up on it.
