Many of you wouldn't have known this week that the youth Olympics have been taking place over in South America. Argentina has been the host nation for the games which began on the 6th October, before concluding with a fantastic closing ceremony last night. During those 12 days we've seen plenty of top level aspiring athletes represent their country as they bid to go to the next level and appear at the 2020 Olympics over in Tokyo. It will be some event over in Asia and with the worlds eyes watching, every athlete will be desperate to be involved.
Yesterday we saw the final of the Futsal competition, with Brazil and Russia facing off for that all important gold medal. The South Americans were the favourites to come out on top and they duly delivered, coming out comprehensive 4-1 winners. They were full value for the victory but there was one moment which really stunned everyone for all the wrong reasons.
With the match in the first half and the scores level at 0-0, Brazil broke at pace on the break and it looked like it was going to come to nothing when a Russian defender intercepted the ball. But instead of charging forward or clearing the ball into safety, he lashed it into the back of his own net! The ball was struck with such conviction that it looked like he did it on purpose - if it was at the other end of the pitch we'd be saying it was a fantastic finish! What a stage to do this on...
