AFCON Winner & Golden Boot Double Odds

Ahead of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations kicking off with Ivory Coast against Guinea-Bissau on Saturday 13th January, we’ve taken a look at the AFCON Winner and Golden Boot doubles odds.

Last time out in 2022, Senegal managed to win their first AFCON crown, while Cameroon’s Vincent Aboubakar finished as top goalscorer at the tournament with eight goals.

Interestingly, the last time that a player managed to simultaneously win the Africa Cup of Nations and Golden Boot at the same tournament was Emmanuel Emenike back in 2013 when Nigeria won the competition and the ex-West Ham forward scored four goals, sharing the top scorer award with Ghana’s Mubarak Wakaso.

Senegal & Sadio Mane Odds: 16/1

Senegal will be aiming to retain their AFCON crown having won the competition back in 2022 at the expense of Egypt. If the Lions of Teranga managed to make it to the final, then they will have made it to three consecutive finals having also made this stage of the competition in 2019 when they suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Algeria.

Sadio Mane will be the man carrying the weight of a nation on his shoulders, with the ex-Liverpool and Bayern Munich forward having scored 39 times in 100 matches for Senegal. The 31-year-old finished as the third top scorer at AFCON 2021 with three goals to his name.

Aliou Cisse’s men have been drawn to play the likes of Cameroon, Gambia and Guinea in Group C.

Egypt & Mohamed Salah Odds: 16/1

Record seven-time AFCON winners will be looking to add to their tally when they travel to the Ivory Coast to take part in this year’s edition of the competition.

Egypt were beaten finalists last time out having lost on penalties to Senegal following a 0-0 draw, meaning that they have lost two of the last three AFCON finals, having also suffered a 2-1 defeat to Cameroon in 2017.

Mohamed Salah will be Egypt’s most likely goal threat throughout the tournament, having scored 53 goals in 93 international matches, on top of the 14 he has scored in 20 Premier League fixtures for Liverpool this campaign.

Nigeria & Victor Osimhen Odds: 20/1

Could Napoli forward Victor Osimhen repeat the impressive feat of Emenike for the Super Eagles?

The 25-year-old is arguably the best out-and-out centre forward going to the competition, having scored 20 times in just 27 international matches while scoring 33 Serie A goals for Napoli since the start of last season.

Nigeria have won AFCON on three occasions, doing so in 1980, 1994 and 2013 and will be looking to go far once again, with the likes of Ademola Lookman and Samuel Chukwueze in their attack alongside Osimhen. Nigeria will face the likes of the Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau in Group A.

Algeria & Riyad Mahrez Odds: 25/1

Algeria will be a team with a point to prove, following their disastrous group stage exit at AFCON in 2022, having managed to win the competition for just the second time in their history in 2019.

The Desert Warriors have been put in Group D with the likes of Angola, Burkina Faso and Mauritania and will be expected to comfortably progress in top spot.

The two-time winners will be led by the likes of ex-Manchester City forward Riyad Mahrez who currently plies his trade at Al-Ahli where he has scored eight times and created seven assists in 19 league matches. The 32-year-old has fired in 30 goals in 89 caps for his national side.

Morocco & Youssef En-Nesyri Odds: 25/1

Morocco come into this competition as the outright favourites following their heroics at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which saw them become the first-ever African nation to reach the semi-final.

Walid Regragui’s men are in Group F of AFCON alongside the likes of DR Congo, Tanzania and Zambia.

Youssef En-Nesyri will be utilised as Morocco’s central striker having done so well at the 2022 World Cup, scoring two times in seven matches, including a winner against Portugal. The 26-year-old has scored 17 times in 61 appearances for his national side and could potentially be one to look out for at AFCON.

Ivory Coast & Sebastien Haller Odds: 25/1

The home nation, Ivory Coast will be expected to live up to the lofty expectations of that which naturally comes when being the host of the competition.

The Elephants aiming to become champions of Africa for a third time having managed to emerge victorious back in 1992 and 2015. They will face the likes of Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and Nigeria in Group A.

Borussia Dortmund striker Sebastien Haller will be hoping to put his domestic form behind him, having failed to score a league goal this season. The 29-year-old does have a good record at international level, scoring eight times in 22 matches for the Ivory Coast.

Cameroon & Vincent Aboubakar Odds: 40/1

Vincent Aboubakar will be hoping to retain the Golden Boot at AFCON having fired in an impressive eight goals in his home tournament back in 2022. The Besiktas man fired in eight goals, the second-most ever scored at a single tournament, behind Pierre Ndaye Mulamba’s nine-goal tally for Zaire back in 1974.

Cameroon played some terrific attacking football under Rigobert Song at both the last AFCON tournament and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and could be a side worth looking out for, especially when considering that the Indomitable Lions are the second-most successful nation in the tournament having won it five times.

At AFCON, Cameroon have been drawn to play in Group C with Gambia, Guinea and Senegal.
