Liverpool are aiming to stay top of the Premier League table for another week and ahead of their return to the Europa League with the relegation-fighting Burnley up next for the league leaders at Anfield.
The gap is currently three points on Manchester City in second, but with a game in hand to play for the champions, City could return to the summit of the Premier League when they meet with Brentford in two weeks in a midweek match. For the time being, however, Liverpool are clear by two after the recent defeat away to Arsenal.
Jurgen Klopp's men fell 1-0 down just before half time when Bukayo Saka scored, as an own goal from Gabriel brought the Reds level. Ibrahima Konate was also sent off in that match and now misses this home clash.
Klopp's men are battling on all four fronts still and with the Europa League on the horizon alongside the EFL Cup final with Chelsea, the German will no doubt hope to rest some players to keep up an unprecedented four trophies in a season in what will be his final year in charge of Liverpool.
Liverpool are coming into this game with 52 goals scored and just 22 let in - this means only City have bagged more goals, while Arsenal are the only side with the same defensive record of a league's best 22.
The recent defeat to the Gunners was also the first defeat since losing to Tottenham Hotspur on the domestic front, as Toulouse and Union Saint-Gilloise are the only other sides to beat them after Europa League wins away from home. Other results in the past month for the Anfield side have seen them smash Chelsea 4-1 here, beat Newcastle United 4-2 on their own patch and also defeat Bournemouth 4-0 at the Vitality Stadium.
As for Burnley, their struggles continued last week with a 2-2 home draw against Fulham, which saw the club come from behind to snatch a point with David Datro Fofana scoring two goals in the last 20 minutes. It keeps Vincent Kompany's men deep in the relegation zone with a gap of seven now on Luton Town in 17th. Worse yet, the Hatters have a game in hand over them and can move 10 points clear in due time.
