Sweden vs. Austria Prediction, Tips & Stats

We have a very appetising fixture in EURO 2024 qualifying this weekend as Sweden face Austria.

Sweden currently sit 3rd in qualifying Group F with two wins and two losses from their first four games of the campaign.

It's been a desperately underwhelming campaign from the Swedes who despite boasting a talented squad have struggled for the most part thus far.

Wins against group minnows Azerbaijan and Estonia have been cancelled out by defeats against Belgium, 0-3, and Austria, 2-0.

They now find themselves four points behind Belgium and Austria at the top of the group and while that's by no means an unassailable deficit they're going to have to do things the hard way if they are to secure one of the top two places in the group.

Having faced Estonia on Saturday night they did take three points in a professional and ruthless manner as they ran out 5-0 winners by way of goals from Viktor Gyökeres, Dejan Kulusevski, Alexander Isak, Robin Quaison and Viktor Claesson.

This will be an indisputably tougher fixture against a side that have beaten them already but they're coming into this game in ideal shape following a thumping win at the weekend.

Given they're at home here they'll fancy their chances of three points but should they fail to win this one then qualification will start to look tricky.

Austria currently sit 2nd in qualifying Group F with three wins and one draw from their first four games of qualifying.

It's been a excellent start to the campaign for a rejuvenated Austrian side who are looking as good as they have done in a number of years following the appointment of manager Ralf Rangnick.

Wins against Azerbaijan, 4-1, and Estonia, 2-1, were followed by a 1-1 draw against Belgium and a 2-0 win over Sweden.

At the weekend Austria faced Moldova and were held to a 1-1 draw, but given it was an uncompetitive fixture with a heavily rotated side it's not a result that should serve as a cause for concern.

Austria will be hugely hopeful of qualifying from this group and if they can take three points in Sweden they'll have one foot in Germany with three games to spare.

That will be mightily difficult, however, given they're away from home against a side with a notably amount of quality in their squad and one would suspect that they'd be satisfied with a draw.

For our Sweden vs. Austria prediction, we're going for a 2-1 win for the home side.

          Sweden Team News

Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyökeres looked an impressive frontline in the win over Estonia last time out and both will be hoping to impact this game in a similar manner.

In a likely 4-4-2, Emile Forsberg and Dejan Kulusevski should start on either side with Victor Lindelöf leading a depleted defence following the injuries of Kristoffer Olsson, Hjalmar Ekdal and Ludwig Augustinsson

          Austria Team News

Austria made a host of changes to their XI for the 1-1 friendly draw against Moldova and will return to their full-strength XI with David Alaba, Marko Arnautović, and Christoph Baumgartner all coming back into the starting lineup.
