Ilkay Gundogan Transfer News & Odds

Despite Ilkay Gundogan’s goal-scoring heroics on the last day of the season, firing in a late brace to help win Manchester City the Premier League title for the fourth time in five years, the German still looks likely to leave Manchester this summer.

Gundogan has made 157 appearances for City, scoring 36 goals and has also won four Premier Leagues, four League Cups, an FA Cup and two Community Shields.

Club Latest Odds
Bayern Munich 4/1
Borussia Dortmund 5/1
Real Madrid 5/1
Juventus 7/1
AC Milan 7/1

Bayern Munich Odds: 4/1

Bayern Munich won their 32nd Bundesliga and their 10th title in a row this season and are looking to strengthen their squad even more. The departure of Munich’s top scorer this season, Robert Lewandoski, is looking ever more likely, so the addition of a goal-scoring midfielder like Gundogan could lead to more goals from different areas of the pitch.

Gundogan spent seven years playing in Germany, with both Bayern rivals Borussia Dortmund and FC Nuremberg, so the 31-year-old wouldn’t need any sort of transition period if he were to move to Munich.

In the 43 games Gundogan played for Manchester City, the German scored 10 goals and provided seven assists, his second-best season at the club, statistically. This return would’ve put Gundogan as the fourth-highest scorer and assist provider at Bayern Munich this season, making the addition of the German to the squad a clear way to strengthen an already star-studded team.

Borussia Dortmund Odds: 5/1

Gundogan could also return to the club he left for Manchester City back in 2016, Borussia Dortmund. The German made 105 appearances in five seasons with Dortmund, scoring 15 goals and registering 20 assists in all competitions, along with winning the Bundesliga in 2012 and reaching the Champions League Final the next season.

Like Bayern, Dortmund have lost their striker, with Erling Haaland moving to Manchester City for £67 million, so the potential arrival of a goal-scoring midfielder could help replace Haaland’s goal-scoring prowess.

The likely departure of Axel Witsel, a key figure in the Dortmund midfield, could make room for a Gundogan return. In Witsel’s 29 Bundesliga appearances, he only scored two goals and provided zero assists. Therefore, bringing in the German would boost the midfield with both goals and assists, something Dortmund need if they plan to break Bayern's dominance in the Bundesliga.

Gundogan is priced at 5/1 to return to the Signal Iduna Park.

Real Madrid Odds: 5/1

Real Madrid won yet another La Liga this season and could make it a double if they beat Liverpool in the Champions League Final in Paris. The champions could look to bring in the German to help dominate Spanish football for yet another season, a league Gundogan is yet to play in.

The Madrid midfield is already stacked with the likes of Casemiro, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. The three of them scored six goals, and have provided 18 assists throughout the season. Despite their clear class on the pitch, Modric is now 36-years-old, so Gundogan could be a possible replacement for the Croatian.

The German’s statistics this season and the past few campaigns under Pep Guardiola show that Gundogan can be an adequate potential replacement for the already stellar Real Madrid midfield.

Real are priced at 5/1 to acquire Gundogan this summer.

Juventus Odds: 7/1

Juventus finished a disappointing fourth in the Serie A, nine points adrift from third-place Napoli and 16 points from winners AC Milan. The Biaconeri’s top scorer, Argentine Paulo Dybala, confirmed he is leaving Turin after seven years at the club, so the addition of Gundogan could be extremely important for a successful campaign next season.

The midfield that Juventus employed for the majority of the season consisted of Arthur, Manuel Locatelli, Adrien Rabiot and Juan Cuadrado. Between them, they scored seven goals and provided ten assists. In comparison, Gundogan scored ten and assisted seven, which would put him joint top for assists at Juventus with Alvaro Morata and third top scorer after both Dybala and Morata.

Overall, Gundogan is a proven winner in both England and Germany, and his success could help push Juventus back to the top of Serie A.

Gundogan is priced at 7/1 to trade the Etihad Stadium for the Juventus Stadium.

AC Milan Odds: 7/1

AC Milan won their first Scudetto in 11 years this season, ending a massive drought for the Rossoneri. Stefano Pioli’s men won the last game of the season 3 - 0 against Sassuolo, to beat city rivals Inter Milan by two points.

Milan currently have a very young midfield of Sandro Tonali and Franck Kessie, who are 22 and 25 years old respectively, but, the latter's contract is set to expire this summer. Tonali scored five goals and registered two assists in his 31 appearances in the Serie A this season, with Kessie also scoring six in his 25 appearances in the league.

This young midfield could be bolstered by the addition of a 31-year-old Gundogan, who has been proven in different leagues and competitions. The presence of the German in the AC Milan midfield could not only boost the number of goals and assists from the midfield but could also help the youngsters who already play there grow.

Gundogan is priced at 7/1 to join AC Milan.
