How Will Football Ties Be Decided?

FootyAccumulators How To How Will Football Ties Be Decided

Bets can become void outside of 90 minutes

Betting on how football ties are decided are often confusing for bettors, as there are a few different outcomes and stages of play to consider.

There are choices for bettors to bet on the full-time result, which means the 90 minutes + injury time result alone. However, bettors can also bet on who can qualify from the tie - should it be a knockout competition - or bet on what can happen in extra time, to win on penalties and to win in extra time.

If you have any queries regarding the betting terminology and what qualifies and when, please see the bookmakers terms and conditions.

What is the difference between injury time and Extra time bets?

Injury time and extra time are two separate occurrences entirely. Injury time refers to the time added onto the initial 90 minutes because of stoppages in play, such as injuries, substitutions and throw-ins.

Extra time, on the other hand, alludes to the extra 30 minutes post-90 minutes in knockout cup competitions, not the extra minutes added on by the fourth official.

Simply put, when 90 minutes is up, the fourth official adds on a certain amount of minutes they believe have been lost throughout. Then, once those minutes are up, the game finishes or breaks for extra time if it is a knockout cup game.

Does injury time count in football bets?

It is important bettors are aware of what qualifies for certain markets and where your bet stops within full-time. Ultimately, all bets are settled within 90 minutes and injury time, unless stated otherwise in the terms and conditions. Please see a list below of some bets that are settled within 90 minutes to give you an example:

  • Correct Score
  • First, Last and Anytime Goalscorer
  • Half Time / Full Time

Ultimately, if your chosen goalscorer scores within the 90+4th minute and this is within injury time, your bet will win. However, if the whistle goes on the 90+3rd minute to signal the end of the game and extra time soon after begins, bets do not qualify any more, unless stated otherwise.

It is important that if you are unaware of what qualifies within 90 minutes and the betting terminology that you read the terms and conditions of the bookmaker.

Types of match result bets that you need to be aware off

All bets that state ‘full-time result’ will be settled within 90 minutes + injury time. ‘To Qualify’ alludes to who will progress into the next round, regardless of the manner in which they qualified; within 90, extra time, penalties are all routes to a win.

If bettors believe the tie will be concluded within extra time or penalties and not the initial 90 minutes + injury time, they must look for this bet. Often, this section will be referred to as ‘How Will The Tie Be Decided’, where bettors can then choose a team to qualify in extra time or to qualify via penalties.
