Marc Cucurella Transfer News & Odds

Brighton & Hove Albion left-back Marc Cucurella is set to be linked to many clubs this summer following an impressive debut campaign for the Seagulls since his £15m move from Getafe last summer.

The 23-year-old was predominantly used as a left wing-back by Graham Potter, managing one goal and two assists in 39 appearances, whilst showing terrific defensive capabilities, making 2.7 tackles per game, as well as 0.9 interceptions and 1.9 clearances.

Tottenham Hotspur 25/1
Arsenal 33/1

Manchester City Odds: 1/3

Manchester City are the firm favourites to sign Cucurella from the Amex Stadium with Pep Guardiola’s side in desperate need of a left-back.

As we saw in City’s 2-2 draw with West Ham in the latter stages of the season, their backup option, Oleksandr Zinchenko struggles to deal with quick wingers due to having a lack of pace, something that Cucurella has in abundance, and with the Ukrainian being linked to Arsenal of late, there could well be a vacancy in this position.

When either of City’s full-backs Joao Cancelo or Kyle Walker have been injured, City have often opted to use both John Stones or Nathan Ake as full-backs, so the signing of Cucurella as a backup could help the Citizens out as they would ultimately have cover.

What must also be noted, is that Guardiola has tended to sign Spanish players on a frequent basis, having bought the likes of Nolito, Angelino, Rodri and Ferran Torres in his time at the Etihad Stadium, on top of promoting Eric Garcia.

Chelsea Odds: 20/1

Chelsea are also in the market for a new left wing-back following a lengthy injury lay-off for Ben Chilwell last season, on top of the fact that Marcos Alonso looks set to leave Stamford Bridge, with the likes of Barcelona apparently interested in the Spaniard.

The Blues are set to have a plethora of defenders leave the club this summer, such as Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger and Alonso, with the Spaniard also able to play at left centre-back in a back five due to his pace and preferred foot being his left, this could be a superb signing for the Blues.

Chelsea are priced at 20/1 to sign Cucurella from Brighton in the upcoming transfer window.

Real Madrid Odds: 25/1

Real are another club that will need to sign a new left-back this summer as they only have Ferland Mendy who can play there at present.

Legendary Brazilian left-back Marcelo announced after Los Blancos’ Champions League final victory over Liverpool that he would not play another game for the club, ending his 15-year spell at the Bernabeu, meaning that Carlo Ancelotti will now be on the lookout for cover and competition for Mendy.

Having already played in the City of Madrid with Getafe, could Cucurella return to Spain to play for Real?

Cucurella is priced at 25/1 to join the Santiago Bernabeu club.

Tottenham Hotspur Odds: 25/1

Tottenham Hotspur also features on this list of clubs that have reportedly shown interest in signing the Spain international.

Despite being on the verge of signing Ivan Perisic on a free transfer upon the Croatian’s contract expiring at Inter Milan, the Lilywhites could also be in for another left wing-back due to Sergio Regulion’s contract containing a buy-back clause in it from Real Madrid, dating back to his transfer from Los Blancos in the summer of 2020.

Following Marcelo’s departure from Real after 15 years, there have been some rumblings that Ancelotti’s men are considering triggering Reguilon’s clause as it would be a significantly easier option to sign the 25-year-old.

Spurs are priced at 25/1 to sign Cucurella from Brighton in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal Odds: 33/1

Arsenal could be in with the Spanish left-back according to reports, as the Gunners look to strengthen the depth in their squad as they push for Champions League football once again next season having narrowly missed out to Spurs.

Kieran Tierney is an important player for the Gunners, however, the Scotland international has missed 48 matches since joining Arsenal due to injury, meaning that Arteta will need some competition for the 24-year-old so that his absences are not felt in the starting 11.

The Gunners opted to use the erratic Nuno Tavares at left-back towards the latter stages of last campaign and the Portuguese full-back struggled due to his defensive frailties.

Arsenal are priced at 33/1 to acquire Cucurella from Brighton.

Barcelona Odds: 33/1

The final team on this list of clubs that have shown an interest in Cucurella is Barcelona.

Long-serving left-back Jordi Alba is the only player in his position at the Nou Camp, meaning that Barca have to move across the likes of Sergino Dest in his absence.

Cucurella actually started his career at Barca having moved from Espanyol’s youth team at the age of 14 and failed to make a league appearance for the Nou Camp club in between 2017 and 2020, instead, being loaned out to Eibar and Getafe before leaving permanently to the latter.

With Alba being 33-years of age and Cucurella entering the prime years of his career, now could be the chance for the Brighton man to deal with some unfinished business and return t Barca to fight for first-team opportunities.

Cucurella is priced at 33/1 to return to Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
